The Hairy Coo was established in 2010 by two young, enthusiastic Scotsmen who had a dream of showcasing the real Scotland to the rest of the world. They wanted to bring to life the tales, myths, legends and raw history that makes Scotland, and to let others see the sights that make this the most beautiful country on Earth.
They started out offering a free tour, a chance for anyone on any budget to experience the wonders of Scotland. Since then, The Hairy Coo has grown to offer various 1, 2, 3 and 5 day coach tours to over 200,000 adventurers. Our award-winning tours give you the chance to discover Scotland through the eyes of a local, and to make memories that will last a lifetime. Take a look.
We listen to our customer feedback and are always striving to be better and committed to making The Hairy Coo experience as memorable as possible.
This has been our mission since day 1 and after 8+ years of feedback, our tours have been tailored to what you want.
We strive to be a business that epitomises Scottish culture. With our local expert guides wit and jokes, their ruggedness, their hardy attitude to the cold, in some cases bright ginger beards, all natural born leaders and storytellers.
For those who want to experience Scottish scenery, Scottish history and Scottish culture, look no further because you’ve found it with The Hairy Coo!
We are very proud to have been awarded Tripadvisor’s certificate of excellence every years since 2011 – that’s 8 consecutive years!
The Scottish tourist board has awarded our tours with 5 stars.
We take sustainability seriously and are implementing ways we can lower our CO2 emissions and reducing waste wherever possible.
Our reputation for being one of the top rated tours in Scotland comes from the engagement from our customers who share what they love about all of our tours. We always appreciate a review, they help us grow and improve; which we always strive to do.
Graham comes from Hamilton, in West Central Scotland, and has been with The Hairy Coo since early 2017. He’s become a firm favourite with our guests.
It was a combination of his love of Scotland and his own love of travelling which convinced him to enter the world of tour-guiding. Having been on numerous tours around the world, he knew he had the personality (and patience!) to do the job. Graham goes out of his way to make everybody on his Scotland tours feel at home and will no doubt be asking plenty of travel tips from your own country!
He’s passionate about music, having recently been to see Celine Dion and Elton John in Las Vegas, and regularly serenades his guests with ballads… be warned! Aside from music, Graham’s other passions in life are Christmas and Halloween, Snowboarding and Hockey. He’s a massive Ottawa Senators fan!
This is Colin, a Scottish highlands man whose passion lies in exploring the great landscapes of the world. Whether mountaineering, white water rafting or abseiling, Colin finds himself in his element when he’s out of his comfort zone.
His ultimate dream is to go mountaineering in the Himalayas. Colin’s love of the outdoors is what makes tours with him so special and exciting – what better way to see Scotland than with an adventurous highlander?
This is John, a fun-loving football fan whose love for Glasgow Rangers is beaten only by his love for Scotland. His favourite thing about being a Hairy Coo driver guide is seeing the looks on people’s faces as he shows off the beauty and history of his beloved homeland. Being amongst the wild scenery of mountains and lochs is his happy place, and he’ll be sure you to have you as in love with Scotland as he is!
Marty hails from Dunbar, the sunniest town in Scotland, where he spent many years throwing himself off cliffs into the sea for fun! On occasion, he can still be found enjoying some cliff jumping but is rather long in the tooth for that now. Marty takes much enjoyment in showing visitors around his beloved Scotland and having started out in the business of Tour Guiding in 2006, Marty has many tricks up his sleeve. He is well known to take visitors off the beaten track to some hidden gems and if you can put up with his terrible jokes then you will probably agree that Marty is the funniest unfunniest person you’ll ever meet!
Ryan is a born-and-bred Edinburgh man and dad to 4 kids who may or may not have had something to do with his hair turning grey pretty quickly over the last few years. A natural born guide, Ryan loves discovering Scotland’s lesser-known spots and best-kept secrets with his family.
He aims to run a marathon one day and loves telling bad jokes. Ryan joined the company in early 2016 and has proven to be a big hit with our guests. His passion for showing our passengers the very best of Scotland each and every day he is on the road is what makes Ryan such a gem.
We take care of our coaches like they are one of the Hairy Coo family and that’s because they are part of it!

Our midi sized coaches are the perfect size for a personal experience, a feeling of being part of a team of adventurers and perfectly sized to be able to travel off the beaten track and explore places other companies can’t reach!
